Standards & disclosures

Education only, not investment advice. Everything here, on X and in our emails explains what was reported. It isn't a recommendation to buy or sell any security.

Methodology: how a sheet is made

Every desk uses the same frame: one phone-sized page, one hero number, sources listed. Here's where the numbers come from on each desk.

Money Desk (earnings)

  1. When: report dates and times come from the company's own announcement.
  2. Expected: Zacks consensus estimates only, source labeled on every sheet. We record the date and time we pulled it.
  3. Actual: the company's earnings release or SEC filing only, on the same basis as the estimate. We say whether it's adjusted or reported.
  4. Prior period: the company's prior-quarter or year-ago filing.
  5. So what: one plain-English line on what changed against expectations or last quarter. It describes the result. It isn't a forecast.

Sports Desk

Official league, team and school releases and public financial reports come first. Contracts and pay are shown as published or as reported by a named outlet, always labeled with that source, never as our own estimate.

History Desk

Primary and institutional historical sources come first (for example Federal Reserve History and government statistics). Full one-pagers check each date and figure against a primary source.

Where this comes from

On each sheet page, sources are listed in this order: (1) the company filing or official release, with the page or table; (2) the consensus estimate with its source and date (Zacks only; earnings only); (3) the prior period; (4) up to three supporting sources, each noting what it was used for.

Before a sheet goes out

Every number is logged with its source and retrieval time, the sheet is checked for phone readability and for repeated facts, and nothing unverified ships.

Editorial standards

  • We report what was filed, published or officially recorded. If we can't source a number, it isn't on the sheet.
  • We don't tell you what to buy or sell, and we don't predict where a stock price goes. No price targets, no implied moves.
  • Earnings estimates: Zacks consensus only, source labeled on every sheet, shown with the date we pulled it. It's analyst consensus, not a forecast by The Financial Desk.
  • Each fact appears once per sheet, and every sheet lists where its numbers came from.
  • No company, team or league pays for coverage, and none reviews a sheet before it's posted. Sports Desk: every team gets the same treatment.

Corrections

If we get a number wrong, we fix it and say so.

  • On the site: the corrected sheet page shows a dated “Corrected” note saying what changed.
  • On X: we reply to the original post with the correction and the fixed sheet.
  • Report an error: email [email protected] with the sheet link and the number.

Affiliate disclosure

  • Charts are made with TradingView. Paid link: TradingView. If you sign up through it, we may earn a commission at no extra cost to you.
  • Any other affiliate link is marked “Paid link.” Affiliate relationships never change what we cover or what a sheet says.

Conflicts

  • People who work on The Financial Desk may own stocks we cover. We don't post about a stock around the time we trade it, and we never make buy or sell calls.
